Tues., October 3: Mitch Park, Edmond.  Mitch Park is along the north side of Covell, between Santa Fe and Kelly. We will meet at the near by Old School Bagel Cafe between 7:30 and 8 AM ( depending on if you want to have breakfast there). The Bagel Shop is located in the mini mall just to the east of Kelly on Covell. It is next to the American Fidelity Bank. We will move to the Park at 8 AM.  Contact Hal Yokum:

Tues., October 10:  Jenkins Road in south Norman. Betz Hacker will lead along with Dick Gunn, the Jenkins Road Birdman. Meet at the Rudy’s Bar -B-Q at the corner of Chatauqua and Highway 9 east, at 7:20 AM. Contact Betz: 

Tues., October 17:  Lake Hefner. Meet at Stars and Stripes Park on the south side, at 8 AM.  Bring your scope! We will bird there for gulls, egrets, ducks and shorebirds. Then we will go to the west side at the spillway and search for smaller migrants- warblers and kinglets. Contact Hal Yokum:

OCT. 18: Big Sit: once again Jimmy Woodard will host a Big Sit at his home, this time mid-week. The event will run from 9 am to 6 pm with participants coming/going as they like. Light snacks will be served but please feel free to bring edibles to share. For directions/details contact Jimmy Woodard. Leader: Jimmy Woodard (

Tues., October 24: Myriad Botanical Gardens (downtown) at 8 AM.  Park along the south side and bring quarters for the meters. I do not think any FREE parking remains in that area. Gather along the south walk. Contact Hal Yokum:

Tues., October 31: Will Rogers Park at 8 AM. Park in the lot across from the outdoor amphitheater, just south of the tennis courts. Contact Hal Yokum:

December 2 (rain date Dec. 9): Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge:  The refuge is located on the upper one half of the Robert S. Kerr Reservoir near Vian (eastern Oklahoma) and features river bottom farmland and wooded swamps, all managed for wildlife. Leader: Marion Homier (

January 20: Tallgrass Prairie Preserve [in conjunction w. Tulsa Audubon]: Meet at the meet at the Preserve Headquarters at 8:00 a.m. Leader: Jim Deming,, 918-864-4707.

February 4: Fort Cobb Lake: Meet at the Braum’s on Garth Brooks Blvd. just off I-40 in Yukon. If you want eat breakfast be there at 7 a.m. The group will leave promptly at 7:30 a.m. and return to that Braum’s at 5:30 p.m. Nearly all the places to be birded are paved, and walking will be easy, though getting a bit away from the vehicles may be necessary. APRIL 28 (rain date May 5): Spring Big Sit: this laid-back birding event will take place on the property of John Cleal and Marion Homier. Times and directions will be provided closer to the event. Leader: Marion Homier (

May 12: Pathfinder Parkway, Bartlesville [in conjunction w. Tulsa Audubon]:  Local expert Mark Peterson will lead us at one of the premier spots for warblers and Spring migrants in Oklahoma. Meet at 7:00 a.m at the McDonalds at Hwy 75 & Price Road in Bartlesville. For more information contact Jim Deming,, 918-864-4707.

MAY ?: Quivira NWR, KS: once again, depending on my availability and interest from club members, I will lead an excursion to this National Wildlife Refuge in Kansas for breeding Black Rails. A side trip to Cheyenne Bottoms will also be on offer. Given the distance from OKC expect to spend at least 1 night in KS. Leader: Mark Delgrosso (
