SEPT. 20: Mitch Park, EDMOND: join Hal Yokum, resident Mitch Park expert, on this early morning, mid-week excursion.  Partcipants should meet at the Old School Bagel Café at 755 W Covell at Kelly in Edmond at 7:45 a.m.  Leader: Hal Yokum (drhal2@cox.net)

OCT 7-9: OOS Meeting: this year’s Fall meeting of the Oklahoma Ornithological Society will be held at the Jenks High School in Jenks,OK (near Tulsa).  More info./details of this event can be had from OOS President Jimmy Woodard at: j.woodard@cox.net

OCT.11: Lake Overholser:  this birding tour of the lake will begin at 8a.m.  Meet at the boathouse/ police station parking lot.  Bring a scope if you have one. Leader: Betz Hacker (elizabethhacker66@yahoo.com)

OCT. 15:  Big Sit: once again Jimmy Woodard  will host a Big Sit at his home.  The event will run from 9am to 6pm with participants  coming/going as they like.  Light snacks will be served but please feel free to bring edibles to share.  For directions/details contact Jimmy Woodard.  Leader: Jimmy Woodard (j.woodard@cox.net).

OCT.18: Lake Hefner:  Meet at 8a.m. at the west side parking lot just before the dam off Britton. Bring a scope if you have one.  Leader: Betz Hacker (elizabethhacker66@yahoo.com)

OCT.25: Martin Nature Park:  meet at 8a.m. in the main parking lot off Memorial, between MacArthur and Meridian.  Leader: Betz Hacker (elizabethhacker66@yahoo.com)

NOV.1: Yukon City Park: Tuesday Morning Birders meet at 8:00 am, Visitors Center. Leader: Betz Hacker (elizabethhacker66@yahoo.com)

NOV 8: South Jenkins: Tuesday Morning Birders meet at 7:15 am at Rudy’s BBQ located at Hwy. 9 and Chautauqua Ave. in Norman to tour South Jenkins with Dick Gunn. Leader: Betz Hacker (elizabethhacker66@yahoo.com)

NOV.20: Whooping Cranes at Great Salt Plains: look for both species of crane, with an emphasis on finding Whoopers, at this traditional stop-over spot on their migration route.  A USFWS biologist will be on hand as well.  Meet at 8a.m. at the Salt Plains Wildlife Refuge Headquarters/Visitor Center. If interested or curious, contact Leader Doug Wood (dwood@se.edu).  Doug would like to have some idea as to numbers of attendees.

JAN. 22: Winter Bird Count: J. T. Nickel Family Nature and Wildlife Preserve, Tahlequah

JAN. 28: Pontotoc Ridge Winter Count: this event is done through the Nature Conservancy.  Contact their representative Jona Tucker for details and further information (jtucker@tnc.org)

FEB. 4: Fort Cobb Lake. Meet up will be at the Braum’s on Garth Brooks Blvd just off I-40 in Yukon. If you want some semblance of breakfast be there at 7:00. We will leave promptly at 7:30am and return to that Braum’s at 5:30pm. Nearly all the places we will bird are paved, and walking will be easy, though we might get a bit away from the cars occasionally. Leader: Larry Mays (405) 568-8775

FEB. 11: Oklahoma Yanahli Winter Count: this event is done through the Nature Conservancy.  Contact their reprentative Jona Tucker for details and further information (jtucker@tnc.org).

FEB. 25: Wichita Mountains Nat’l Wildlife Refuge. Meet at Love’s gas station at the I-44 / Medicine Park exit at 9:00 on Saturday Feb 25th. Lunch at Meers or Ann’s Country Kitchen. Target species: Canyon & Rock Wrens, Longspurs, Le Conte’s & Rufous-crowned Sparrows, and anything else we stumble upon. Leader: Kurt Meisenzahl (meisenzk@sbcglobal.net)

APRIL 6: Lake Thunderbird:  Joe Shepard has organized a birding outing at Lake Thunderbird for the morning of April 6 before he hops in the RV and makes the annual expedition back to Alaska. Interested birders should meet Joe at 7:30 a.m. at the Thunderbird State Park. Directions: from OKC take I-35 S to Hwy 9 E about 17mi to Clear Bay park entrance on L. Once past the entrance go about 150yds to the parking area (restrooms present). For further info./details contact Joe at: jcshep@yahoo.com

Tues, April 18: Yukon park: 7:30 Meet Betz Hacker: elizabethhacker66@yahoo.com. Park on W. Parkland Drive. Directions: Take I-40 to Czech Hall Rd. Turn left on 10th. Turn Rt (almost immediately) on Holly. Go 2 blocks and take a RT on Sequoia Park Dr. Then go 2 blocks and take a left on W. Parkland.

APRIL 22: Pontotoc Ridge Preserve: this Nature Conservancy property will be opened to interested birders for Spring migration.  We will meet the preserve manager Jona Tucker at 8:30 a.m. at the Preserve headquarters and go from there. Directions to the headquarters are as follows: travel s about 14.5 miles from Ada on 99/377.  Turn L onto County Rd 1720.  Go 1 mile then turn L at the ‘T’ junction.  Enter Preserve at first gate on the R.  Directions can also be accessed online at: http://goo.gl/maps/ZUVBG.  The trip leader can also forward via email a basic map of the site w. directions.
